Our Region
Bassett Healthcare Network serves residents in a rural part of Central New York that includes the following eight counties:
- Chenango County
- Delaware County
- Herkimer County
- Madison County
- Montgomery County
- Oneida County
- Otsego County
- Schoharie County
Our service area lies in the northernmost part of Appalachia, a region defined by higher rates of poverty and challenged by higher levels of chronic diseases. The poverty rate for the region averages about 20 percent, higher than the national average of 15 percent. Public transportation is limited, making it difficult for many of our patients to seek regular medical attention.
Bassett Healthcare Network uses support from the community to build health centers where they are most needed, reducing the distance our patients may have to travel to receive care. We have also developed a network of health centers in schools to provide care conveniently at no cost to children and their families and have launched innovative programs like our mobile cancer screening coach, which provides essential cancer-screening services to patients close to home.
