Since 1971, my family has trusted Bassett Healthcare Network for our healthcare needs. My spouse’s family has been with them even longer.

Over those years, I've seen the health system evolve and improve, but the core of what makes Bassett so special has remained the same—the people. It's not just their medical care, but the way they truly care. That's why, as I reflect on my most recent experience, I feel it is worth sharing my thoughts.

Bassett isn’t just concerned with treating the body; they treat the whole person—including the mind, the heart, and the spirit. I know this firsthand. On December 9, 2024, I fell down a flight of stairs – a frightening experience that left me scared and bleeding. In that moment, I was terrified. As soon as I arrived at Bassett Medical Center, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. I was in the hands of professionals who immediately sprang into action. The nurses and doctors were calm, reassuring, and skilled. They quickly performed tests and scans to rule out any serious damage to my neck or spine.

They even sent my test results to a specialist in Rochester to confirm there were no fissures that could change the course of my recovery. This wasn’t just tending to my physical injuries: reaching out for a second opinion gave me peace of mind and reminded me that they go the extra mile for their patients.

As I’ve worked through recovery, the physical therapy team has been outstanding. It’s clear that they are experts in their field, but beyond that, they have a rare gift: the ability to connect with their patients with an understanding of the mental and emotional weight that healing can carry.

They aren’t just helping me regain strength; they’re helping me to heal on every level.

When I arrived at the hospital after my fall, it was the middle of the night and we were in the midst of a snowstorm. I was worried about my spouse driving home in the early morning hours. Despite being incredibly busy, one of the nurses made the time to call my house to confirm they had arrived back safely. That kind of kindness and genuine concern is rare—and it’s exactly what makes Bassett so special.
