When to See a Gynecologist

It is recommended that a young woman begins to see a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15 to set healthy women’s health habits and get a yearly wellness exam. Depending on your overall health and your family history, you will not start to get a pap smear until you are 21 years of age.

In addition to your yearly well woman visit, make an appointment with your obstetrics or gynecology practitioner if you have or experience:

• A family history of osteoporosis
• Irregular menstruation
• Pelvic pain
• Symptoms of perimenopause or menopause
