Endometriosis Symptoms
Endometriosis is when tissue that is usually found only in the lining of the uterus grows in the pelvic cavity. Endometriosis can happen at any age, but typically occurs in women in their 30s and 40s. Adenomyosis is another condition of the tissue that lines the uterus, but in adenomyosis the tissue thickens the wall of the uterus, which causes similar symptoms.
Symptoms of Endometriosis Include:
- Pelvic pain
- Swelling
- Menstrual cramps
- Bleeding or spotting between periods
- Pain during sex, bowel movements, or urination
Endometrioses can affect your quality of life and make getting pregnant difficult.
Endometriosis Causes
Many risk factors can cause endometriosis, including:
- Genetics
- Immune system problems
- Hormone imbalance
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome
- Closed or blocked hymen
- Fibroids
