Before it became associated with Bassett Healthcare Network, the health clinic in this small rural town was known as the Leland O. White Laboratory.
The plan for a laboratory had originated in 1950, when members of the Sharon Springs Rotary Club decided to donate money in honor of Dr. White's 50th anniversary serving rural community residents. The building opened its doors in 1953, when it was decided that the members of the community needed a health center so that they did not have to travel for x-rays and diagnostic laboratory tests.
Dr. White could now make a precise diagnosis without persuading his patients to go to the city. He no longer needed to mail samples to other laboratories and wait for the results.

Bassett Medical Center – Sharon Springs Health Center has received and sustained National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition. The New York State (NYS) Patient-Centered Medical Home program leverages health technology that supports high quality and patient-centered coordinated care. Sustaining NCQA Recognition through annual ongoing reporting demonstrates that the practice has invested in the tools, systems, and processes needed to deliver high quality and patient-centered coordinated care.
National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Approved Site
Bassett Medical Center – Sharon Springs Health Center is an NHSC approved site. Since 1972, the NHSC has been building healthy communities, ensuring access to health care for everyone, preventing disease and illness, and caring for the most vulnerable populations who may otherwise go without care.
