Our Post-Graduate Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Clinician Residency Program
Our Program
Residents are hired as Advanced Practice Clinicians in the Bassett Healthcare Network's Department of Emergency and Trauma Services.
Mission Statement
The mission of Bassett Healthcare Networks Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Clinician Residency Program is to prepare graduates to practice in higher acuity emergency medicine settings and function at a more independent level by providing them with a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of emergency medicine and a broader procedural skill set.
Program Goals
Residents will gain competency in caring for the acutely ill by participating in weekly didactic sessions offering lecture-based learning, case discussions, procedural simulation, mock codes, and ultrasound education. They will broaden their knowledge by spending a significant portion of their time working directly in the emergency department, as well as rotating through a number of other specialties.
Program Outline
- Each class starts in August and runs 12 months
- Interviews are generally held May / June for the upcoming year
Didactics
Weekly didactic sessions are held over zoom and also in-person in the Active Learning Center at Bassett Medical Center. Didactic sessions include power point lecturing, case discussions, interactive question and answer sessions. Sessions in the active learning center focus on mock codes, procedural simulation and ultrasound education. Didactic topics are taken from the 2019 Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine.
