Welcome from Kristen Zach, MD, Program Founder

Bassett Healthcare Network's Post-Graduate Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Clinician Residency Program provides an innovative and comprehensive learning experience for physician assistants and nurse practitioners, equipping them to deliver the highest quality care in any emergency department setting.

The program's ultimate goal is to train passionate and knowledgeable top-tier clinicians that will deliver superior care, practice evidence-based medicine, and improve the standard of emergency medicine care in our region.

About Kristen Zach, MD

With more than 15 years of emergency medicine experience, Kristen is dedicated to education and leadership. She achieved her master's degree from Stony Brook University's Physician Assistant Program in 2009 and began her work in emergency medicine. In 2016 she graduated with her medical degree from Stony Brook University and began her residency in emergency medicine. In 2019 she graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School's Emergency Medicine Residency program. She completed a one-year fellowship in 2020 in Academic Emergency Medicine.

She joined Bassett Healthcare Network's Department of Emergency and Trauma Services in 2020 and serves as the Education Coordinator for the department.

About Emily Ramsey, FNP

Emily has more than 18 years of combined nursing experience between her roles as a Registered Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner. As such, she is dedicated to the pursuit of lifelong learning and to supporting the career development of Advance Practice Clinicians in the Emergency Department and beyond. She achieved her BSN from Los Angeles' Mount St. Mary's College in 2007 and began working as an ICU and Emergency Department RN at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center. In 2013, she graduated with her Family Nurse Practitioner MSN from UCLA School of Nursing and began working in Primary Care and Urgent Care settings in the Los Angeles area. In 2015, she moved to Sonoma County in Northern California, where for 6 years she worked as a dedicated PCP for a rural and underserved Federally Qualified Health Center. In 2021, she joined Bassett Healthcare Network's Emergency and Trauma Services department.

As part of her transition back to Emergency Medicine, she was a member of the first class of Bassett's APC Emergency Medicine Residency program in 2022. She has served as the Program Director for the Residency since 2024.
