Pre-mature Ovarian Failure
What is Premature Ovarian Failure?
In simple terms, premature ovarian failure is early menopause. Normally, a woman is in her early 50s when her ovaries stop producing eggs. With premature ovarian failure, the average age is about 27 but can be as early as 15.
Many women will experience symptoms similar to menopause, but can often occur abruptly over one to two months. Premature ovarian failure can cause infertility, secondary infertility, and stop you from trying to conceive normally.
In some cases, your doctor may be able to treat an underlying cause of ovarian failure, such as hypothyroidism.
Treatments for Premature Ovarian Failure
Unfortunately, premature ovarian failure often cannot be treated. If you are trying to conceive, there may be alternative options for you to have a child.
