Megan Clark and Brianna Moore have been awarded the 2018 Joanne Burdick Scholarship by the A.O. Fox Hospital Auxiliary.

The scholarship was established in 1997 in honor of Joanne Burdick, now the former director of volunteer services at A.O. Fox Hospital. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded to two area high school graduates who are pursuing a major in the health care field. At least one of the recipients must declare a major in nursing. Since the formation of the scholarship, the A.O. Fox Auxiliary has awarded a total of $94,000 to 47 students, made entirely possible by volunteer work.

Clark, the daughter of Ricky Clark of Hartwick and Paula Young of Clifton Springs, graduated in June from Edmeston Central School. She will be entering the nursing program at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, with plans to become a registered nurse and eventually a nurse practitioner.

Moore, the daughter of Donald Moore of Oneonta and niece of Hazel Clow of Laurens, is a June graduate of Laurens Central School and will be attending The Sage Colleges majoring in occupational therapy.

"I am just as proud and honored today as I was when the Auxiliary established the scholarship in my name," says Burdick. "Through the years, recipients have gone on to become physicians, nurses, physical therapists and other health care professionals. I have no doubt that this year's honorees will do great things and become outstanding caregivers."

The students were honored at a reception on July 10 in the flower gardens of the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.
