Glaucoma

Your optic nerve is the nerve that connects your eye to your brain so that you can see. Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve when excess fluid that has built up in the front of your eye increases pressure in your eye.

There are two major types of glaucoma:

  • Primary open-angle glaucoma
  • Angle-closure glaucoma (also called “closed-angle glaucoma” or “narrow-angle glaucoma”)

Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in people over 60 years of age, but blindness can often be prevented by early diagnosis and treatment by an ophthalmologist.

Read here about the symptoms of glaucoma, and make an appointment if you suspect you may have glaucoma.
