Volunteering with Bassett: Students Learn About Careers in Healthcare

Brian Zhang, a sophomore in high school, has been volunteering at the front desk inside Bassett Medical Center’s Fieldstone building since August 2024. He enjoys interacting with the security officers stationed at the desk and with visiting guests.

“It’s like an introductory course to the medical field, if I ever decide that’s what I want to get into,” Brian says.

Volunteers who work at the front desk at Bassett Healthcare Network’s hospitals are often the first people patients and their families interact with after they arrive. Volunteers greet them and provide directions to where they need to go.
