Cooperstown, NY – Bassett Healthcare Network’s New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health (NYCAMH) recently received accolades from Governor Kathy Hochul and Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets Richard Ball.

NYCAMH, a program of Bassett Healthcare Network, is dedicated to enhancing agricultural and rural health by preventing and treating occupational injury and illness. Its invaluable work is one facet of Bassett’s commitment to agricultural and rural health.

In recognition of NYCAMH's excellent performance in agricultural health and safety, it is designated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (CDC-NIOSH) as one of eleven agricultural centers across the country. Serving a twelve-state region from Maine through West Virginia, it promotes health and safety research, education, and prevention activities in the high-risk areas of farming, commercial fishing, and logging.

Governor Hochul recently signed a proclamation designating September 17-23 as Farm Safety and Health Week in the New York State, specifically highlighting the important role that NYCAMH plays in educating and researching agricultural health and safety issues.

During a National Farm Safety and Health Week press call, NYCAMH demonstrated how its efforts to bridge state and federal funding sources levels are creating positive, real-world benefits for New York farmers. Joining the call were NYS Assembly Agriculture Committee Chair Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, NYS Senate Agriculture Chair Senator Michelle Hinchey, NYS Department of Health Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ursula Bauer, and Deputy Commissioner of NYS Agriculture and Markets Jennifer Trodden, who serves on the NYCAMH Advisory Board. Also in attendance were members of New York Farm Bureau leadership.

NYS Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Ball and Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Trodden visited NYCAMH’s offices and shared insights on agricultural health and safety. At the end of his visit, Commissioner Ball presented Governor Hochul’s proclamation.

“When I get the thinkers and the doers in agriculture together, they’re all big fans of what you do because you’re trusted by the farmer, and you’re trusted by the farm worker,” said Commissioner Ball. “And that is a winning combination.”
