In honor of National Advanced Practice Provider (APP) week, held at the end of September, Bassett Healthcare Network's Cardiovascular Services Department commended four outstanding team members for their hard work with certificates and awards.

This was the first year these awards were organized and 66 Bassett employees weighed in with their opinions on who should take home the titles.

"The number of respondents is an amazing testament to what our APPs mean, not only to Cardiovascular Services, but colleagues in respective areas, such as operating rooms, special care units, intensive care units, and imaging labs," said Dr. Michael Holmes, Chief of Cardiology. "While all nominated could not be recipients this year, each undoubtedly contributes to the amazing success we, as a department, continue to experience. We want to thank them all for being engaged and exceptional colleagues."

Congratulations to each of the winners!

Rising Star Award Winner: Kaley Chase, Interventional NP

This award recipient demonstrates characteristics of ambition, innovation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.

"I was genuinely surprised to receive the Rising Star Award, among the many deserving APCs in our department," said Kaley. "I am flattered to be an award recipient and I appreciate our colleagues who took the time to recognize the hard work of our APCs through submitting their votes. Thank you to everyone involved!"

Coaching Champion Award Winner: Toby Wilcox, Cardiac Surgery NP

This award recipient is a problem-solver and continuous learner who demonstrates active listening and inclusivity.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for recognizing myself and my colleagues," said Toby. "I was a clinical educator in a past life as a clinical nurse specialist, so I believe teaching to be a very important part of what we do as providers and am therefore honored to be recognized for that. Each clinical issue that arises is an opportunity to teach nursing staff. I will endeavor to live up to this distinct honor."

Difference Maker Award Winner: Alicia Rowley, General Cardiology NP

This award recipient demonstrates leadership skills by modeling a strong work ethic, passion, wisdom, inspiration, and motivation for their colleagues.

"I am very appreciative of this award," said Alicia. "The whole reason I expanded my career beyond nursing is to make a difference in people's lives beyond what nursing could offer as a practitioner. There are so many people in this world that need an advocate that is compassionate, comprehensive, and a leader in their care and I am beyond grateful to provide my patients with that care."

Golden Heart Award Winner: Matt Chisdock, General Cardiology PA

This award recipient is an exemplary role model to their colleagues who consistently demonstrates courage, unity, and excellence that strengthens the team and the organization.

"Being recognized at work is very rewarding," said Matt. "This award in particular is gratifying because the specific qualities described are exactly what our entire APC team has been striving for - to create a culture of support and teamwork with each other."

These first annual Bassett Cardiovascular Services APP awards encompass network APPs from General Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiac Surgery, and Structural and Invasive Cardiology. The awards were made possible through the planning and organization of Dr. Michael Holmes, Holly Cassella, RRT/RT, MHA, Service Line Director, Karen Harris, Executive Assistant.
