Breast Cancer and Early Detection

The most basic step in the early detection of breast cancer is monthly breast self-exams. If a woman finds something unfamiliar while examining her breasts she is encouraged to make an appointment right away. In addition to self examinations, clinical breast exams and annual mammograms are very important and increase a woman's chances of surviving breast cancer.

To help make breast care accessible to women, Bassett has mammogram units in several locations. To schedule an appointment for a mammogram, call your primary care provider for a referral. For more information about Bassett's Breast Care program, call 1-800-939-0090.

WomensHealth10.jpgBy age 40, every woman should have her first baseline mammogram. After that, women should have one every year. Mammograms are the primary tool for detecting breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage.
