Swing Bed

Sometimes, people need a little extra time to recover from surgery, illness or injury.  The O’Connor Hospital Restorative/Rehabiliative Care (Swing Bed) Program offers patients short-term restorative care – a chance to heal and regain strength at their own pace, close to home and loved ones.

Patients benefit from a comprehensive, individualized approach to their care. Our team of professionals develops each patient’s plan of care and works together to ensure progress. The program coordinator helps develop the plan of care, coordinates follow-up medical appointments and arranges service in patients’ homes upon discharge.

Specialized Services

A full range of services is available to Swing Bed patients and their families, including:

Skilled Nursing Care

Our experienced nursing staff provides professional, around-the-clock care, including wound care, patient education and long-term IV antibiotic therapy.

Physical Therapy

The physical therapy team develops a comprehensive plan of care that promotes increased muscle strength and endurance, improved balance and better mobility.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapy team helps patients develop skills that will help them become as self-sufficient as possible when they return home.

Multidisciplinary Patient Care Conference

Members of the health care team meet weekly to develop, reassess and update each patient’s plan of care, and to determine the patient’s needs at home upon discharge. Families are invited to be part of the plan of care and participate in meetings.
