Merle Myerson, MD, EdD, FACC, FNLA
Director, Bassett Medical Center Preventive Cardiology & Lipid Clinic and Pre- Exercise Screening Program
Dr. Myerson is a cardiologist and board-certified lipid (cholesterol) specialist and expert in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. She graduated from Columbia University, Barnard College. In addition to her cardiology training, she also holds a doctorate in Applied and Exercise Physiology from Columbia University. She earned her medical degree from State University of New York, completed her internal medicine training at Duke University Medical Center, and her cardiology training at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Prior to coming to Bassett Medical Center, she was founder and director of the Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai Roosevelt Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program and Lipid Clinic, the Pre-Exercise Heart Screening Program, and Cardiology Section/Institute for Advanced Medicine (HIV). She has also held the position of Medical Officer at the National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Dr. Myerson holds many leadership positions in the American Heart Association, National Lipid Association, American College of Cardiology (Sports Cardiology Section). She founded and directs the New York Clinical Lipid Forum (educational symposium for health care providers).
She is an active clinical investigator and her research work includes cardiovascular risk factors, and prevention of cardiovascular disease, preventing cardiovascular disease in patients living with HIV, and screening to prevent sudden cardiac death in athletes.
